Background knowledge: Portuguese - Brazilian
Unlike most of the other countries of South America, in which Spanish is spoken, Portuguese is the official language in Brazil. Brazilian Portuguese differs both in pronunciation and vocabulary, and to a lesser extent, in grammar, from the usual Portuguese. There are significant differences in the orthography. In words that contain cc, cç or ct, the first c is omitted in Brazilian, and in words that contain pc, pç or pt, the p is omitted. These letters are not pronounced, but, instead, represent the remnants from Latin, which have been eliminated in Brazilian to a large extent.
At present, Portuguese is included in the list of the languages spoken by most people in the world at the sixth place (after Mandarin, Spanish, English, Bengali and Hindi). In Angola, Brazil, France, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Portugal as well as in São Tomé and Príncipe, Portuguese is spoken respectively by more than 1% of the population, and in all, by about 190 million native speakers, and including those for whom it is a second language, raises this number to about 200 million.
Our Portuguese translators are based in the following cities: London, Glasgow, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Brighton, Leicester, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Sydney, Liverpool, Brighton, Los Angeles, Oxford, Edinburgh and many other cities.
