Background of Italian
Mainland Italy (North Italy) covers the Italian Alpine region at the West Alps and the Southern Calcareous Alps and the North Italian lowlands (especially the plains of the Po). Peninsula Italy (Central and South Italy) is the region from the Apennines to the Apennine peninsula; the western part is taken up by hilly countryside with rich basins having volcanism and plains at the coast abounding in bays; on the east side the Apennine hilly countryside borders on the graded shore line; the limestone quarries of Apulia lie to the south-east.
Islands of Italy, about one-sixth of the land area, include Sicily, Sardinia and smaller islands. Among the rivers, only the Po with its tributaries is significant apart from Tiber and Arno. Lake Garda, bordering the Alps, is the largest lake in Italy. There are many volcanoes in Italy, some of which are still active (Etna, last eruption in 2001); even earthquakes occur relatively frequently (last one was in 1997 in Umbria and Marche).
Our Italian translators are based in the following cities: London, Glasgow, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Brighton, Leicester, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Sydney, Liverpool, Brighton, Los Angeles, Oxford, Edinburgh and many other cities.
