Linguistic family and dialects of Finnish
The tradition of the Finnish script dates back to the translation of the New Testament by the Finnish Bishop, Mikael Agricola in the 17th century, who used a Western Finnish dialect. The national Finnish epic, Kalevala, was published by Elias Lönnrot in the year 1835, and this strengthened the nationalist movement to demand the introduction of Finnish instead of Swedish as the official language of the Government and the versions formed. In the course of these efforts, a Finnish literature society was established in 1831, and in 1841 Finnish was approved, besides Swedish, as the medium of instruction in advanced schools.
Finland is a highly developed industrial nation: Around 50 % of the export revenue is earned by the metals, machinery construction and electronics industry, with the wood processing industry contributing about 30 %. Finland has been termed the most active on-line nation in the world: The per capita number of mobile phones and Internet connections is the highest as compared to any other country in the world.
