Background on the Estonian language
The Estonian language belongs to the Baltic-Finnish languages of the Finno-Ugrian group of languages. Estonian is the official language in the Republic of Estonia, and is spoken by about 1.1 million people. Estonian has two very different dialects: North Estonian is spoken in the majority of the country and forms the basis of the modern written language; South Estonian is spoken south of Tartu.
Owing to the historical developments in the country, the Estonian language has a great deal borrowed from the Baltic, Germanic and Slavic languages, which, however, have been adapted to the phonetic structure of Estonian, e.g. pood > Bude 'Office'. Estonian uses the Latin script with its own special alphabets.
Estonian is an agglutinating language with abundant form richness (there are 14 cases formed form each substantive in singular and plural; the adjectives are conjugated in their form with that of the substantive). Estonian has no grammatical gender, and there are also no articles. There is no system of phonemes, which affects the duration of vowels and consonants. There is no vowel harmony, in contrast to Hungarian and Finnish.
Our Estonian translators are based in the following cities: London, Glasgow, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Brighton, Leicester, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Sydney, Liverpool, Brighton, Los Angeles, Oxford, Edinburgh and many other cities.
