English to Arabic translation
Arabic translation services. The written language in Egypt is modern high Arabic, but English, and to a lesser extent, French, have been widespread as business and educational languages. The general colloquial language is, however, the Egyptian Arabic dialect. Egyptian is a new Arabic dialect, which is understood by many Arabs in the entire Arab-speaking world owing to the dominance of the Egyptian film industry. In contrast to news etc., films are not screened in High Arabic, but, instead, in the respective country-specific colloquial language, without dubbing or sub-titles. Since the Egyptian film industry supplies films to the entire region, Egyptian Arabic or the Cairo dialect is understood at present in the entire Arabic world.
Since the 20th century, classical Arabic, after it had lost significance in certain regions, was consciously promoted by cautious intellectuals on a cultural boom, and adapted itself consequently in vocabulary and style to the demands of modern time. The new high Arabic that thus emerged is, to begin with, like classical Arabic, a generally binding written language.
Apart from it, there are many regional languages existing, and their respective local dialects (comparable somewhat to the conditions in Switzerland pertaining to high / written German, Swiss German and, for example, Zurich German). In the Arabic countries one learns high / written Arabic only at school. Moreover, it is spoken in religious cults only within a formal framework (speeches, presentations and news broadcasts etc.) or for comprehension within the Arabs, in case the idioms used by the speakers diverge substantially and communication is rendered impossible.
