Translation of CV's
A CV, in general, should be prepared in chronological sequence and in a tabular manner. After specifying the most important personal information - address, nationality, date of birth - the CV should contain a list of the educational qualifications acquired and professional experience gained so far.
In the process, accuracy of the information furnished is just as important as the details regarding the names and descriptions of previous employers and places where practical experience was gained, the respective portfolio and activities, additional qualifications and advanced training and foreign deputation, if any. Even hobbies can be included in the CV if they are relevant to the specific job application. In Germany and other European countries, it is also requested that a recent and illustrative photograph be included along with the CV.
In general, a CV should not exceed two pages in length. The font type and size can be selected as desired provided that it is clearly and easily legible. Clear structure, clarity of presentation and correct spelling are the prerequisites for an impressive job application.
CV Checklist
Structure:
1) Personal information
(Name, address with telephone no., e-mail and fax no., date and place of birth and nationality. If desired, information regarding marital status - single or married - and number and age of the children)
2) School education
(Keep this brief. The older you are, less the importance of when and where you attended school, particularly if you have been relocated on a few occasions. In any case, you should mention the highest school qualification with information regarding the institution / place and the date)
3) Vocational training, if applicable
(Information about vocational training mentioning the training institution and the final examination, with indication of any special merits or awards)
4) High school qualifications
(Mention the course or courses attended. If you have attended the course but not the final examination, omit the information since it is self-explanatory. List semesters studied abroad separately.)
5) Professional experience, if any
(Information about the employers till date, starting with the last job in reverse chronological order. All dates must be specified with month and year so that there are no discontinuities in the CV. Describe the most recent activities using keywords)
6) Professional / non-professional advanced training programmes attended, if any
7) Special skills
(Linguistic and computer skills)
8) Miscellaneous / Hobbies
(Voluntary and / or social commitment, sports. These should be related, as far as possible, to the job application for specialised occupations) 9) Date and Signature (First name and Surname, handwritten in blue ink)
